PITTSBURG, Kan. -- A 63-55 loss to Emporia State (18-8, 13-5 MIAA) in the final regular season game of the season means the Pitt State women's basketball team (17-9, 11-7 MIAA) will host a first-round MIAA Tournament game at 7 p.m. Tuesday (March 5) in John Lance Arena.

Emporia State took control of the game at about the 12 minute mark in the second half and earned the only double digit lead of the game, 63-52, with 18 seconds remaining. Morgan Westhoff hit a late three for the Gorillas to cut the lead back to eight points and the 63-55 loss.

Lizzy Jeronimus paced the Gorillas with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Drew Roberts added 13 points, 11 of which she scored in the first half. Lauren Brown added 11 rebounds.

Emporia State had four players in double figures. Laura Patrick led with 14, Rachel Hanf added 12, Sarah Wood, 11, and Desiree Wylie, 10.

There were four ties and six lead changes in the first half, as neither team led by more than five. Pitt State had a 22-17 lead with 2:52 left, but a 6-0 run gave Emporia a 23-22 lead just 40 seconds later. A traditional three-point by Sarah Wood to end the half gave Emporia a 27-26 lead.

Pitt State opened the second half with a 7-0 lead, but were not able to sustain the momentum.

The Gorillas will be the No. 7 seed in the MIAA Tournament and will face No. 10 seed Missouri Western. The team that wins that game will advance to Kansas City to face the No. 2 Seed at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 8.

Tickets for Tuesday's game are available now at the PSU Ticket Office. Tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission and $5 for youth/students. The PSU President's Office has purchased 100 tickets, so the first 100 PSU students will get into the game free. Per MIAA rules, all seats for the game must be purchased and no season passes will be honored. The ticket office will be open special hours from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 for Gorillas fans to purchase tickets for the game.
