PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State women's basketball team (14-6, 7-3 MIAA) won its third consecutive MIAA game on Wednesday (January 29) with a 68-53 victory over Northeastern State (9-10, 6-6 MIAA) in John Lance Arena.
Three Pitt State players scored in double figures, led by Lizzy Jeronimus with 21. Cathy Brugman added 14 and Antqunita Reed came off the bench to add 11. Reed scored seven of her 11 points in only seven minutes in the first half. Jeronimus led the team with nine rebounds and Brugman added eight.
Pitt State outrebounded the RiverHawks by three, 36-33, including 11 offensive boards. The team also added six blocked shots and six steals on the night. The Gorillas made seven threes on the night, including four from Brugman and a 2-for-2 performance from Hailey Roderique.
The Gorillas led from the 15 minute mark on, though there were three more ties, including as late a 21-21 with 6:52 remaining in the first half. Reed made a jumper to break the tie and the RiverHawks were never closer than three from that point on.
Pitt State held a 33-27 lead at the half.
PSU stretched its lead to double digits, 50-40, for the first time on a Reed jumper with 10:29 to go. The team's largest lead of 18 points, 64-46, came on free throws by Jeronimus with 5:41 to play.
The Gorillas will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on Central Oklahoma in a 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 1.
