PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State volleyball team opens a five-game homestand on Homecoming weekend. The Gorillas will take on No. 6 Washburn at 7 p.m. on Friday and Emporia State at 6 p.m. on Saturday. 

Friday night fans are encouraged to wear red and to bring $1 to donate to Make-A-Wish. Saturday is Alumni Day. Returning alumni will be recognized between sets two and three. 

The No. 6 Ichabods come into John Lance Arena with a 15-1 overall record and a 7-1 record in the MIAA. The team's lone loss was to Missouri Western. Even in its wins, the Bods have played only three extra sets. Marissa Cox and Leanna Willer lead the team with 3.90 and 3.87 kps, respectively. Cox leads the team in blocks with 48, while Willer contributes to the defensive effort with 3.15 dps. Natalie Bates, 8.40 aps, and Liz Powell, 4.75 aps, share setting duties. Alyssa Carney averages a team-high 5.13 dps. 

Emporia State will play SBU on Friday before coming to Pittsburg on Saturday. The Hornets enter the weekend with a 6-7 overall record and a 2-6 mark in league play. The team's two conference wins were over Missouri Southern and Lindenwood.

The Hornets are led by Carly Spicer with 3.70 kills per set, who hits at a .240 clip. She is also second on the team in digs with 3.06 dps. Josie Williams adds 2.61 kps and Courtney Haring records 2.04 kps. Emporia State runs a 6-2 offense with starting setter Kimberly Bell averaging 5.74 aps and Sydney Hartman added 3.92 aps. Kelly Holden records a team-high 4.30 dps. Harins leads the team in blocks with 47, while Shayla Cotman adds 38. 

Pitt State returns home to John Lance Arena with a 5-11 overall record and a 2-6 league record. The team's two conference wins were over Southwest Bapstis and Fort Hays State, each in five sets.

The Gorillas have four players averaging two or more kills per set, led by Madi Mosier with 3.58 kps. Ary Crittleton adds 2.40, Paula Okrutna, 2.38, and Ashley Bell, 2.00 kps. Hayley Hansford runs the offense from the setter position with 9.71 aps. Ashlen Schwartz and Aimee Wood are the Gorillas top defensive specialists with Schwartz leading with 3.88 dps and Wood adding 2.76 dps. Haylee Gregory leads teh team in blocks with 48 on the season. Mosier adds 42, while Crittleton and Bell have 35 a piece.
