RiverHawks Sweep Twinbill From Gorillas Saturday

PITTSBURG — The Northeastern State University baseball team swept a pair of games from Pittsburg State University Saturday (Feb. 14), spoiling the Gorillas home-opening action at Al Ortolani Field. The RiverHawks limited the Gorillas to a pair of hits in a 4-1 win in the opener, before taking game two, 8-3.

The losses dropped Pitt State to 3-5 on the season, while NSU improved to 4-1.

Logan Terrell got the Gorillas lone RBI in game one with a second-inning single that scored Nate Arnold. Arnold led off the inning with a walk. Matt Standlee (0-1) took the loss allowing two unearned runs in four innings of work.

In game two, the RiverHawks broke open a 2-1 game with a four-run third inning and then tacked on two more runs in the fourth.

Derek Hackney went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Pitt State, while Arnold went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Christian Cedeno (0-1) allowed seven runs, four earned, in three innings of work. Nick Brandecker worked five hitless innings of relief for the Gorillas.

Pitt State will open MIAA action next Friday (Feb. 20) when the Gorillas start a four-game weekend series against Missouri Southern State University at Joplin, Mo.
