PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Pittsburg State softball's MIAA opener against Southwest Baptist has been delayed one day due to wet field conditions.

The Gorillas were originally slated to face Southwest Baptist in the MIAA opener for both teams on Tuesday (Feb. 24). The games will now be played on Wednesday (Feb. 25) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the PSU Softball Complex.

Southwest Baptist is 5-4 on the season after playing tournaments in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Bentonville, Ark. in the first two weeks of the season. The team has not played since a 4-3 win over Ouachita Baptist on Feb. 14. The Bearcats have a .282 batting average and a 4.16 ERA as a team.

Pittsburg State is 3-3 on the season. The team went 3-1 at the Eight State Classic in Bentonville, but lost both games of a doubleheader at Arkansas Tech last Thursday (Feb. 19). The Gorillas are hitting .339 as a team and has a 3.34 ERA and a .935 fielding percentage. The Gorillas have hit eight home runs and nine doubles in their first six games. 

Individually, McKenzie Rynard and Cheslyn Mitchell are each hitting over .400 for the Gorillas. Rynard leads the team with a .474 batting average, a 1.105 slugging percentage and a .583 on base percentage. She has scored eight runs and leads the team with three doubles and three home runs. She has walked five times, but has not struck out yet this season. Mitchell has a .458 average and leads the team with 11 hits on the season. Katy Remy (.375), Ashton Pratt (.350), Nicole Nease (.350) and Kylie Guthier (.300) are all hitting .300 or better. Rynard, Nease and Guthier share the team lead in RBI with six a piece.

The Gorilla pitching staff is led by Emmie Robertson with a 2-2 record and a 1.36 ERA. She has given up only 10 hits and four earned runs in 20.2 innings pitched. She struck out 18 batters while walking seven. Hitters have only a .145 average against her.
