Vogelbaugh's Walkoff Gives Gorillas Split Against Griffons


PITTSBURG -- Andrew Vogelbaugh belted a walkoff grandslam with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Pittsburg State University baseball team to an 8-5 victory over Missouri Western State University in game two of an MIAA doubleheader Sunday (Mar. 15).

The Griffons (13-7, 9-3 MIAA) defeated the Gorillas (5-12, 2-6 MIAA), 10-9, in game one.

Vogelbaugh hit his shot of MWSU reliever Richard Peoples (4-1), who surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. The Gorillas tied the game 4-4 with a run in the seventh to force extra innings.

Andrew Kreiling went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Nate Arnold (1-0), who picked up the victory in relief of starting pitcher Matt Standlee, went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In game one, the Gorillas built an 8-3 lead after four innings, but the Griffons scored three times in the fifth, and added two runs in the seventh to force extra innings. MWSU added two more runs in the eighth for a 10-8 lead, and the Gorillas plated a run in the bottom of the eighth for the final 10-9 margin.

Dylon Koch went 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI for the Griffons.

Vogelbaugh went 1-for-3 with three RBI for Pitt State.
