KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team sent 19 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs in the decisive sixth inning to lead the Gorillas to a 17-7 victory over the University of Nebraska Kearney Friday (Mar. 20) at Memorial Field.
The Gorillas (6-12, 3-6 MIAA) and Lopers (14-10, 8-5 MIAA) will continue their four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday (Mar.15).
Pitt State trailed 5-3 before exploding for 14 runs on 11 hits in the sixth inning.
Andrew Vogelbaugh and Jack Mercer each hit a two-run home runs in the pivotal sixth inning, while Andrew Kreiling and Luke Bordewick both added two-run doubles.
Kreiling finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, while Bordewick and Vogelbaugh eacn drove in three runs.
Nick Brandecker (1-0) allowed one earned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory.
