Lopers Sweep Pair From Gorillas Saturday

KEARNEY, Neb. — The University of Nebraska Kearney baseball team swept a pair of games against Pittsburg State University Saturday (Mar. 21) at Memorial Field. The Lopers defeated the Gorillas, 19-9 and 9-6, in the twinbill.

Pitt State (6-14, 3-8 MIAA) and UNK (16-10, 10-5 MIAA) will wrap up the four-game series with a final contest at Noon Sunday.

In game one Saturday, the Lopers jumped all over the Gorillas early in the contest, scoring five runs in the first, three runs in the second, six runs in the third and four runs in the fourth inning. UNK scored 19 runs on 16 hits in the contest. Pitt State pitchers also issued nine walks and hit two batters.

Dillon Schroeder went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and nine RBI to lead UNK, while Connor Messinger went 4-for-5 with four RBI.

Luke Bordewick paced the Gorillas by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.

In game two, the Lopers again struck early for a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two more in the second. The Gorillas countered with a three-run third inning, but UNK added a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth to seal the victory.

Bordewick and Derek Hackney both went 2-for-3 in the contest for the Gorillas.
