Gorillas Return Home

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State women's basketball team returns home this week to face Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist. Thursday's game against the Jennies is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., with a 1:30 p.m. tipoff for Saturday's game against Southwest Baptist.

Pittsburg State enters the game with a 11-3 overall record and a 5-3 record in MIAA play to put them in fifth in the league. Central Missouri is 4-7 and 3-3 and seventh in the league standings. Southwest Baptist is 7-5 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Bearcats are 10th in the league standings.

PItt State averages 74.1 ppoints per game, while allowing opponents just over 60 ppg. The Gorillas shoot .420 from the floor overall and .333 from long range, hitting 7.1 threes per game. The team pulls down 38.4 rebounds per game, 3.5 more per game than their opponents. The team commits only 11.4 turnovers per game and has a 1.3 assists to turnover ratio.

Despite missing two games due to injury, Mikaela Burgess leads the team with 15.6 ppg. She is the team's leading three-point shooter, having made 35 threes on the season. Cathy Brugman adds 13.5 ppg and is the second-leading rebounder with 5.7 rpg. Kylie Gafford scores 12.4 ppg to round out three Gorillas in double figures. She also leads the team in blocked shots with 20, twice as many as anyone else on the team. Paige Imhoff comes off the bench to contribute 5.9 ppg. She is second on the team with 43 assists and leads the team with 16 steals. Hadyn Herlocker leads the team in assists with 54 and she has turned the ball over only 15 times all season. She scores 5.3 ppg.

Most recently Central Missouri earned a 77-74 win over Southwest Baptist in Warrensburg. The Jennies score 65.7 ppg and are led by Shelby Winkelmann with 20.3 ppg. She is the only player in double figures, though both Tayler Weiks and Ashley Jones are just under double figures at 9.7 and 9.4 ppg, respectively. Jones also leads the team with 8.2 rpg.

The Bearcats' biggest win of the season came over then-No. 1 Fort Hays State on Dec. 19 in Bolivar. Southwest Baptist scores 72.7 ppg and 28.6 rpg. The team was made 58 threes on the season. Megan Rosenbohm and Caylee Richardson leads the team with 11.8 ppg each. Dilonna Johnson adds 10.2 ppg. Richardson is the team' s top rebounder with 8.9 rpg.
