PITTSBURG — Trey Lansman led three University of Nebraska-Kearney players in double figures with 24 points as the visiting Lopers claimed a 92-79 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Dec. 1) in the MIAA opener for both squads.
Lansman posted a double-double with 24 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for UNK (6-2, 1-0 MIAA), while Isaiah McKay added 18 points and Yashua Trent chipped in with 14. The Lopers shot 50.8 percent from the field in the game (33-65), including a 58.6 percent clip in the first half (17-29) as they built a 54-38 cushion.
Creighton Brinker scored a career-best 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting to lead the Gorillas (1-7, 0-1 MIAA). Brinker made five of seven 3-pointers and added a team-leading eight rebounds.
Pitt State shot just 39.7 percent form the floor as a team, making 29 of 73 shots. Isaiah Hicks (12), Jaxon Holden (11) and Brandon Clifford (10) also scored in double figures for the Gorillas. Jordan Phelps added seven points and seven rebounds.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Dec. 3) when the Gorillas host MIAA rival Fort Hays State University at 3:30 p.m. at John Lance Arena.
