Softball Splits in the Second Day of Dome Classic

ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Though the day didn't start great for the Pitt State softball team, with a 10-2, six-inning loss to Northern State, the team recovered to end the tournament with a 4-0 win over host Winona State.

Against Winona State, Pitt State scored four runs on five hits and two Warrior errors. Each of the five Gorilla hits came from a different player. Winona State had four hits, but were not able to plate a run. Pitt State pitcher Emmie Robertson struck out nine and walked four. 

Pitt State got on the board first in the second. Nicole Nease drew a lead off walk. Andie Cumbie came in to pinch run for her. She advanced on an Alex Perez sac bunt and to third on a Kylie Guthier fly out. Jenna Bolton brought Cumbie home with a base hit to center for a 1-0 lead.

Sierra Hall helped the Gorillas in the third with a one-out base hit to third. She advanced to second on a Catie Cummins ground out. A fielding error by the Warriors' right fielder allowed Hall to score and put Pitt State up 2-0.

The final two Gorilla runs came in the sixth as Kylie Guthier hit a two-run home run for a 4-0 lead.

In the first game of the day, Northern State scored its 10 runs on eight hits and three Pitt State errors. The Gorillas scored two runs on six hits.

Northern State scored one run in the first, four in the third and five in the sxith to end the game. 

The Gorillas scored one run each in the fourth and sixth innings. Kris Van Hoosen, who was 2-for-3 in the game recorded both RBI.

Pitt State will not play again until Tuesday, March 1, when the team will travel to Oklahoma City for a doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian.
