PITTSBURG — Emmie Robertson tossed a no-hitter and Jenna Bolton slugged a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the lone run of the game as the Pittsburg State University softball team blanked Fort Hays State University, 1-0, Friday (Mar. 11). The Gorillas defeated the Tigers, 7-1, in the nightcap.
Robertson (10-2) allowed just a two-out fourth-inning walk to Tori Beltz, while fanning 11 batters in the contest. Samantha Villarreal followed Beltz by reaching on a fielding error, but Robertson ended the threat by striking out Paxton Duran for the final out of the frame.
Bolton sent her shot to left first – her third homer of the year – with one out in the fifth off Duran.
In game two, the Gorillas broke open a 2-1 game with a five-run sixth inning. Bolton went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game, while Katy Remy also went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Morgan Myers (5-4) scattered seven hits and fanned three batters.
The Gorillas (16-5, 4-0 MIAA) will return to action Saturday (Mar. 12) by hosting the University of Nebraska-Kearney in an 11 a.m. doubleheader at the PSU Softball Complex.
