Gorillas Hold On For 5-4 Victory Over Ichabods

PITTSBURG — Ty Rowe worked 4 1/3 innings of relief to quiet the Washburn University bats and lead the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 5-4 victory Sunday (Mar. 20) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (6-14, 1-10 MIAA) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally from a 4-3 deficit against the Ichabods (11-10, 6-5 MIAA).

Rowe (3-0) allowed two runs in Washburn's four-run fifth inning that chased Pitt State starter Ryan McKay. He settled down after the fifth, allowing just two hits over his final four innings of work and fanning six batters.

Andrew Vogelbaugh's sacrifice fly plated Brett Macary with the tying run in the bottom of the fifth, after Jacob Boylan doubled Macary to third base. Boylan then scored the go-ahead run from third when Cole Brecheisen reached on a one-out fielding error.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for the Gorillas.

Pitt State and Washburn will wrap up the three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. game Monday (Mar. 21).
