PITTSBURG — The Fort Hays State University baseball team jumped out to a 9-0 lead before settling for an 11-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Friday (Apr. 29) at Al Ortolani Field.
D.J. Carr (4-6) retired the first 11 Pitt State batters he faced and held the Gorillas scoreless until the eighth inning.
FHSU (20-26, 14-21 MIAA) capitalized on 10 walks and two hit batters as the Tigers scored 11 runs on only seven hits in the contest. Pitt State (14-30, 9-26 MIAA) scored three runs apiece in the eighth and ninth innings.
Jake Durossettee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Gorillas. Alex Weiss and Joe Mapes each drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers.
The two teams will wrap up their three-game MIAA series with a Noon (CDT) contest Saturday (Apr. 30).
