TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Northeastern State University baseball team scored three times in the eighth inning and plated two more runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally for a 7-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Tuesday (Apr. 5).
The Gorillas (6-24, 1-20 MIAA) suffered their fifth-one run loss of the season at the hands of the RiverHawks (16-15, 10-11 MIAA). NSU swept its season series against PSU, winning all three games in its final at-bat.
Tuesday, the RiverHawks spoiled a solid outing from Gorillas starter Cooper Gardner who exited the game with a 3-2 lead after scattering eight hits and allowing two runs in five innings of work.
Jacob Boylan led Pitt State's 12-hit attack by going 4-for-5 at the plate with a solo home run and two RBI. Chad Kilgore also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Gorillas will return to action Friday when the open a three-game MIAA series against Lincoln University at 6 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.
