PITTSBURG — Marquiez Lawrence posted a double-double with game highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the University of Central Missouri men's basketball team to a 73-58 victory over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Feb. 8) at John Lance Arena.
The Mules (16-6, 10-4 MIAA) led 45-40 with 13:22 to play in the game before outscoring the Gorillas (4-18, 2-12 MIAA), 8-2, over the next two minutes to take control of the contest and pull away for the double-digit victory.
Spencer Reaves (13), D.J. Richardson (11) and Jakob Lowrance (10) also scored in double figures for UCM, which shot 51.9 percent from the field (27 of 52) in the contest.
Pitt State got a team-leading 11 points from Brandon Clifford and 10 points from Christian Edmondson. The Gorillas managed to shoot just 39.7 percent from the floor in the contest, making 23 of 58 attempts.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Feb. 11) when the Gorillas travel to Bolivar, Mo., to face MIAA rival Southwest Baptist University at 3:30 p.m. at the Meyer Sports Complex.
