PITTSBURG -- The Rogers State University baseball team jumped out to a 14-0 lead and then held off a Pittsburg State University rally for a 22-17 victory Wednesday (Mar. 8).
The Hillcats (13-5) scored five runs in the first inning and nine more in the second as they built a huge lead against the Gorillas (7-12).
Pitt State countered with a five-run second inning and another six-run frame in the sixth as the Gorillas slowly fought back into the contest. Andrew Vogelbaugh sparked Pitt State's comeback with a 5-for-6 hitting day, belting two home runs and driving in eight runs. Colton Pogue added three hits, including a double, and collected three RBIs.
The Gorillas will return to action Friday (Mar. 8) when they open a three-game MIAA series against Missouri Western State University.
