Gorillas Open Series With 10-6 Win Over Lopers

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 5-5 game with a three-run sixth inning as the Gorillas pulled away for a 10-6 victory over the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the opening game of a three-game series Thursday (Apr. 13).

Dallas Reed doubled twice and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead runs in the sixth to help propel the Gorillas' 16-hit attack.

Cooper Gardner (5-1) allowed just one run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief work to earn the win. He allowed one walk and registered a pair of strikeouts in the contest.

Pitt State (15-22, 9-14 MIAA) recorded its third straight win, while the Gorillas snapped a modest two-game win streak by UNK (13-24, 6-18 MIAA).

The two squads will resume the series at 3 p.m. Friday (Apr. 14) at Al Ortolani Field.
