Gorillas to Open MIAA Series Against Bearcats Sunday at 3 p.m.

Sunday Twinbill Pushed Back Two Hours

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will open a three-game MIAA series against Southwest Baptist University starting Sunday (Apr. 23). The Gorillas and Bearcats will play a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Al Ortolani Field then complete the series with a 3 p.m. game Monday (Apr. 24).

Sunday's games were set to start at 1 p.m. but have been pushed back two hours to allow the field to dry more. The series originally was set to be played Friday through Saturday but was pushed back two days due to rain.

Pitt State enters the series 18-22 overall and 11-14 in MIAA play. The Gorillas are currently tied for eighth place in the MIAA standings (with Central Oklahoma) with the top eight teams at the end of the regular season advancing to the MIAA Postseason Tournament at Joplin, Mo. The Gorillas have won six straight games, including a 13-7 victory over Missouri Southern in their most recent action Apr. 18.

SBU is 27-12 overall, 17-9 in the MIAA and tied for fourth place (with Central Missouri) in the MIAA standings. The Mules handed the Bearcats a 15-5 defeat to snap a three-game SBU winning streak on Apr. 18.

Sunday's action will include Senior Day ceremonies between games one and two of the twinbill against SBU. Pitt State will honor outgoing seniors Christian Arnold, Chase Cleland and Ty Rowe at that time.
