PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University head football coach Tim Beck has announced personnel changes to the Gorillas coaching staff.
Â
Beck announced that assistant coach Lance Cullen has left the staff to pursue other interests in the private sector.
Â
Cullen joined the PSU coaching staff as a full-time member in 2002 and worked with the Gorillas' defensive secondary for the past 15 seasons. He also served as a graduate assistant coach at Pitt State from 1996-97.
Â
"All of us on the Pitt State coaching staff want to wish Lance the best in his new career," Beck said. "He has been an invaluable member of our staff and he will be missed as a coach and a friend. Lance was very instrumental in recruiting the state of Kansas and he was a great ambassador for the university."
Â
With Cullen's departure, Beck announced that former Pitt State four-time All-America and 2011 NCAA Division II National Defensive Player of the Year Nate Dreiling has been hired as a full-time staff member. He will serve as the Gorillas' safeties coach.
Â
Dreiling, who joined the Pitt State staff as a graduate assistant in January, returned to campus after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas the past two seasons (2015-16).
Â
"We are excited to have Nate step in as a full-time member of our staff," Beck said. "As a player, Nate always approached the game like a coach on the field. His film preparation and knowledge of the game exceeded that of a player and he's continued to grow as a young coach in the profession."
Â
Former All-MIAA and All-Super Region defensive back Keeston Terry also has returned to campus to serve as a graduate assistant coach. Terry will assist Dreiling with the Gorillas' safeties. The staff still is in the process of securing a pair of graduate assistants to assist with offensive line and defensive line, respectively.
Â
Additionally, assistant coach Carl Roth will now serve as the staff's recruiting coordinator in addition to his duties as linebacker's coach. Roth begins his 26
th season as a member of the Pitt State coaching staff.
Â
Assistant coach John Pierce, who had served as recruiting coordinator since 2007, will transition to off-campus recruiting in the state of Kansas. Pierce, who enters his 30
th season as a member of the Pitt State coaching staff, also coaches running backs.
