Gorillas Prep for Road Matches Against MWSU, NWMSU

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will travel for a pair of MIAA road matches Friday and Saturday (Oct. 5-6). The Gorillas will battle Missouri Western State University Friday at St. Joseph, Mo., at 7 p.m. and then take on Northwest Missouri State University Saturday at Maryville, Mo., at 3 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
Pitt State is 15-5 overall and 4-3 in MIAA playing heading into the weekend action. The Gorillas split a pair of home matches last week, rallying for a 3-2 victory over Emporia State before dropping a 3-0 decision to Washburn.
 
Offensively, senior rightside hitter Lauren Regier leads the squad with 216 kills (2.92 kps) followed by sophomore middle hitter Emily Regier with 144 kills (1.97 kps).
 
Sophomore Camryn Blanton averages 9.03 assists per set and freshman Brianna Richards contributes 2.52 assists per set.
 
Junior defensive specialist Lauren Dunn averages 4.82 digs per set, while sophomore middle blocker Emily Regier averages 0.93 blocks per set.

Scouting the Opposition
MWSU enters Friday's action at 10-9 overall and 3-4 in MIAA play.

Two middle hitters lead the Griffons offense with junior Stephanie Doak averaging 3.78 kills per set followed by senior Shelby Taylor (2.66 kps). MWSU's defensive leaders are senior defensive specialist Audrey Keim with 359 digs (5.28 dps) and junior middle blocker Rachel Losch with 1.00 blocks per set.

NWMSU is 14-4 overall and 6-1 in the MIAA entering a Friday home match against the University of Central Oklahoma.

Senior outside hitter Maddy Bruder leads the team with 263 kills (4.24 kps) and senior middle blocker Sofia Schleppenbach chips in with 2.42 kills per set and 0.77 blocks per set. Defensive specialist Olivia Nowakowski contributes 4.31 digs per set.

Following the weekend action, Pitt State will host a pair of MIAA matchups Oct. 12-13 against Lindenwood University and University of Central Oklahoma at John Lance Arena.
