PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Gorillas to a 17-12 victory over Washburn University Friday (Mar. 30) at Al Ortolani Field.
The Gorillas (20-11, 12-7 MIAA) scored nine runs on seven hits in the frame – including a three-run home run by Hunter Clanin – to turn an 11-8 deficit into a 17-11 lead against the Ichabods (10-20, 4-15 MIAA).
Conner Davis (2-1) worked got three outs in the top of the sixth to earn the win. WU plated four runs in the frame before Davis came in to end the Ichabods scoring. Ethan Vanderpool limited WU to one run over the final three innings to pick up his second save of the season.
Clanin and Joven Afenir collected four hits apiece to lead the Gorillas 21-hit attack. Clanin went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBIs, while Afenir finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Colton Pogue (3-for-5), Dallas Reed (3-for-3) and Cody White (3-for-4) all added three hits.
The Gorillas and Ichabods will complete the three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday (Mar. 31).
