PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will host Missouri Southern State University in the Gorillas' home finale Tuesday (Apr. 24) at 4 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field. The game originally was scheduled for Wednesday but was moved up a day due to the threat of rain.
Pitt State enters Tuesday's action with a 27-14 overall record and a 19-10 mark in MIAA play. The Gorillas sit in fourth place in the conference standings after dropping a 9-6 road decision to Northeastern State University in their most recent action Apr. 17. MSSU comes in with a 23-20 overall record and an 11-18 MIAA mark. The Lions are seeking to halt a six-game slide after being swept in a three-game MIAA series against Northwest Missouri State University Apr. 19-20.
Tuesday's action will be the final home game for 19 Pitt State seniors.
The Gorillas enter the game batting .339 as a team and scoring 7.8 runs per game. Defensively, Pitt State has a .968 fielding percentage and Gorillas pitchers have compiled a 4.70 ERA. Pitt State leads the MIAA in batting average, ranks second in the conference in fielding percentage, third in the league in runs scored and fourth in the MIAA in ERA.
Junior first baseman/designated hitter Reece Garvie ranks second in the MIAA in batting average (.417). He has 10 doubles and 32 RBIs on the season. Senior shortstop Colton Pogue is fourth in the MIAA with a .409 batting average. He also leads the MIAA in runs scored (38).
