WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Emporia State University baseball team broke open a 2-2 game with two runs in the fourth inning and four more runs in the fifth inning to pull away for an 11-5 victory over Pittsburg State University Sunday (May 13).
The Hornets (33-21) advance to the 2018 MIAAÂ Tournament Championship Game to face the University of Central Missouri while the Gorillas (33-19) are eliminated from the tournament.
Pitt State now will await the NCAA Division II Baseball Selection Show at 9 p.m. (CDT) to see if the Gorillas earn an at-large berth to the NCAA-II National Tournament. Pitt State entered the week ranked fourth in the final Central Region rankings with the top eight teams earning berths.
Dallas Reed went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs for the Gorillas against the Hornets. Colton Pogue went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
