MAGNOLIA, Ark. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team dropped a 9-4 decision to Augustana University in game one action of the 2018 NCAA Division II Central Regional Thursday (May 17).
The Gorillas (33-20) fall into the loser's bracket of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament. Pitt State will face the loser of a Thursday match-up between No. 1 seed Southern Arkansas University and No. 8 Emporia State University. That elimination game will be played at 10 a.m. (CDT) Friday (May 18) at Walker Stadium.
Augustana (45-8) broke open a 1-0 game with a four-run third inning against the Gorillas. The Vikings extended the inning thanks for a Pitt State error and Lucas Wylie delivered a three-run home run to punctuate the frame. The Gorillas were charged with three errors in the contest, leading to five unearned runs among Augie's run total.
Colton Pogue went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Gorillas, while Hunter Clanin also went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Brad Kinsey (4-1) took the loss. He allowd five runs, one earned, in 3.0 innings of work.
