No. 16 Bronchos Defeat Gorillas in Five-Set Thriller Tuesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller to No. 16 University of Central Oklahoma Tuesday. UCO took the match 25-20, 17-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13.

Jordan Spence registered a match-high 16 kills for UCO (15-2, 3-0 MIAA), which hit .519 in the match. Taylor Bevis added 13 kills, while Dominique Lipari posted 33 digs to lead the Bronchos defense.

The Gorillas, who hit .122 overall, and battled, back from the 0-1 start to take the next two sets 25-17 and 26-24. UCO closed out the match by hitting .389 on eight kills in set five.
 
Pitt State (13-3, 2-1 MIAA) had three players record double digits kills, Lauren Regier (15), Emily Regier (12), and Morgan Henning (10). Camryn Blanton collected 44 assists from the setter position, while Lauren Dunn paced the Gorilla defense with 27 digs.

The Gorillas will return to action this weekend when Pitt State hits the road to take on Fort Hays State Friday (Sept. 21) at 6 p.m. followed by a road match against No. 6 Nebraska Kearney Saturday (Sept. 22) at 3 p.m.
