Gorillas Set to Begin MIAA Gauntlet Tuesday Night

PITTSBURG, Kan.—The Pittsburg State University Gorillas Volleyball team is prepping to take on three ranked opponents, two of which reside in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), this week at John Lance Arena on Whetzel Court. They action is set to begin Tuesday night when the Gorillas host the No. 17 Rockhurst Hawks at 6 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
  • Pitt State enters Tuesday's contest with a perfect 5-0 record at home and a 2-0 MIAA record after notching two wins last week. They have a 7-3 record overall on the season and are coming off a huge four-set win over University of Central Oklahoma, who was receiving votes in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Poll.
  • The Gorillas have won their last two contests.
  • Erika Ivkov leads the way for the Gorillas as she has 119 kills on the season, an average of 3.31 per set while Brianna Richard has tallied 264 assists.
 
Scouting the Hawks
  • Rockhurst enters Tuesday's contest with a 9-3 overall record and a four-match winning streak.
  • They enter the contest ranked No. 13 in the AVCA poll.
  • The Gorillas will be the Hawks' final nonconference opponet of the season as they have participated in three four-match tournaments over the first three weeks of the season.
  • In those three weeks, Rockhurst has played four ranked opponents and have a 1-3 record against them. They defeated then-ranked No. 19 California State University-Los Angeles, 3-1, before falling to than-ranked No. 10 Tarleton State (1-3), No. 6 University of Minnesota Duluth (0-3) and No. 8 University of Nebraska at Kearney.
  • The Hawks are led by Karli Reichert who has 146 kills on the season, averaging 3.74 kills per set.  Their main setter is Dani Prusha, who has 432 assists, an average of 11 per set.

  • The Gorillas will stay at home and continue the MIAA gauntlet against No. 11 Northwest Missouri (6 p.m.) on Friday and No. 14 Central Missouri (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
