PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team has announced its 2021 spring schedule.

The Gorillas will open the spring season with two matches at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court on Saturday, February 20. Pitt State will play 14 matches during the spring, all against MIAA competition.

The Gorillas will take on Washburn at 10 a.m. and Northwest Missouri at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 20. Pitt State also will host:Â Missouri Southern (Mar. 18), Newman (Apr. 2), Central Oklahoma (Apr. 3), Central Missouri (Apr. 6) and Emporia State (Apr. 10) among its six home dates.

The MIAA spring season will culminate with all schools being invited to a postseason tournament that will be held Apr. 16-18.

The spring season came to fruition after the MIAA canceled its 2020 fall volleyball season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2021 fall season will open with the Gorillas taking part in tournament action Sept. 4-5. Pitt State will host a tournament in week two, Sept. 9-11.

The Gorillas posted a 14-16 overall record (9-11 MIAA) during the 2019 season. Pitt State returns three players who started eight or more matches last year:Â junior OH Meg Auten, junior RS Claire Sandvig and sophomore S Laura Willoughby.
