EDMOND, Okla. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team split an MIAA doubleheader against the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday (Mar. 27). The Bronchos defeated the Gorillas, 8-2, in game one before Pitt State bounced back with a 10-3 victory over UCO in the nightcap.
The split snapped Pitt State's modest four-game winning streak. The Gorillas are now 11-6 overall and 8-6 in MIAA play heading into Sunday's 1 p.m. (CDT) match-up against UCO (9-7, 6-5 MIAA).
Garrett McGowan and Aaron Gerdes each drove in three runs in the game two victory for the Gorillas. McGowan went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Ryan Koval also went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.Â
Jarret Dotson (1-1) earned the win in relief for Pitt State. He recorded four outs with no hits and a strikeout behind starter Nick Brown. Justin Root worked the final 3.0 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
