EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three and a half innings and rode that early momentum to a 12-1 run-rule victory over Emporia State University Tuesday (Apr. 13) at Glennen Field.
The non-conference victory over their MIAA rivals helped the Gorillas improve to 17-10 on the season, while the Hornets dropped to 11-17. Pitt State recorded its 12th road victory of the season, improving to 12-2 away from Al Ortolani Field.
Garrett McGowan belted a two-run home run and scored three times in the contest to help pace the Pitt State offense. Cruz Aranda also went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, while Dawson Pomeroy went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Zach Curry (3-2) pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits and registering five strikeouts. Justin Root added a scoreless inning of relief for the Gorillas.
Pitt State will return to action Friday (Apr. 16) when the Gorillas open a three-game MIAA series against Newman University at Al Ortolani Field.
