PITTSBURG — Peyton Ingalls pitched 7.3 solid innings and Justin Root nailed down the final five outs to help lead the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 5-1 victory over Newman University Sunday (Apr. 18) at Al Ortolani Field.
The victory helped Pitt State (19-11, 14-10 MIAA) take two of three games in the series against Newman (6-17, 5-16 MIAA).
Ingalls (4-1) scattered six hits and allowed just one run againt the Jets, while registering seven strikeouts. Root picked up his first save of the season. Aaron Gerdes went 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs to lead the Pitt State offense. Cruz Aranda tripled, scored a run and drove in another.
Pitt State will return to action Tuesday (Apr. 20) when the Gorillas take on Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee, Okla.
