CLAREMORE, Okla. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team completed an MIAA series sweep of Rogers State University Saturday (Apr. 3). The Gorillas defeated the Hillcats, 4-3 and 2-0.
The wins helped Pitt State improve to 15-7 overall and 12-6 in MIAA play and climb into a tie for third place in the conference standings. RSU dropped to 12-10 overall and 9-9 in the MIAA.
Garrett McGowan doubled and scored on Aaron Gerdes sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning. Tanner Lane (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Gorillas,while Dawson Pomeroy registered his third save of the season by recording the game's final out with the bases packed with Hillcats.
McGowan had three hits in the contest, while Cruz Aranda, Ryan Koval and Caleb Carr all had two hits apiece.
In game two,starter Chandler Ladd and three relievers combined to limit RSU to five hits.Justin Root (1-1) worked 3.3 innings of one-hit relief to earn the win and Jordan Mendenhall picked up his first save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
Koval went 2-for-4 with a one run scored and RBI in the contest.
