ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team recorded its fifth straight victory by defeating Missouri Western State University, 5-1, in its MIAA series opener Friday (Apr. 30) at Griffons Field.
The win helped the Gorillas improve to 23-11 overall and 18-10 in MIAA play. Pitt State and MWSUÂ (10-24, 8-20 MIAA) will wrap up its three-game set with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (May 1).
The Gorillas plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning against the Griffons, giving starter David Henderson (7-2) all the run support he would need in the contest. Henderson scattered three hits and three walks over 8.0 innings of work while registering eight strikeouts.
Dawson Pomeroy went 2-for-3 with an RBi double to help lead the Pitt State offensive attack.
