ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored a pair of victories Saturday (May 1) to complete a three-game series sweep of Missouri Western State University. The Gorillas defeated the Griffons, 7-6 and 5-2.
Pitt State has now won 10 games in a row to improve to 25-11 overall and 20-10 in MIAA play. MWSU dropped to 10-26 and 8-22 in the MIAA.
The Gorillas jumped out to a 6-2 lead against the Griffons in game on Saturday before having to hold on for a 7-6 win.
Cruz Aranda went 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored by Dawson Pomeroy added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Brett Daley also added a two-run triple for the Gorillas. Justin Root (3-1) won the game, working 2 2/3 innings of relief. Pomeroy registered his fifth save of the season by working 2.0 hitless innings of relief to close the contest.
In game two, Peyton Ingalls (6-1) limited the Griffons to one run over 7.0 innings of work. He scattered six hits and registered five strikeouts. The Gorillas broke open a 1-1 game with a four-run seventh inning. Aranda and Greyson Pinkett had a pair of RBIs apiece in Pitt State's big inning. Tanner Lane worked the ninth inning to pick up his third save of the year.
