PITTSBURG — A trio of school records fell by the wayside Friday (Jan. 21) as Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field athletes competed in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Pitt State men recorded all three new top marks. Newcomer Braylen Brewer etched his name in the record book by winning the 400 meters in 47.53 seconds. He edged the previous mark of 47.54 set by Dinsdale Morgan in 1996. Newcomer Henry Kiner tied Kiara Jones' mark in the triple jump with his winning effort of 51 feet, 11.25 inches. The 4x400m relay of Nizar Alarahshun, Sam Tudor, Graham Hudelson and Brewer closed out the night with a school record time of 3:12.86.
In other men's action, Konner Swenson won the weight throw (60-3.75, PQ) and placed second in the shot put (55-5.75), while Cole Sample claimed victory in the shot put (55-9.25). Cameron Johson placed second in the pole vault (16-1.25, PQ) and Christian Carter finished second in the long jump (23-2).
T.J. Caldwell won the 60 meter hurdles (7.96), while Matt Wilson won the 600 yard run (1:12.42) and Hudelson placed second (1:12.51) in the discipline. Mason Strader added a victory in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:52.21 and Bryce Grahn won the mile run in 4:12.27.
In the women's action, Camryn Williams won the weight throw (51-3) and placed third in the shot put (42-9.75). Isabelle Peters tied for second place in the pole vault (12-6.75, PQ), while Kyla Davis finished fourth in the discipline (12-6.75, PQ). Erica Schamel placed second in the high jump (5-5.25).
Trace Mosby won the 60m hurdles in a PR time of 8.54, while Madelyn Marquez also secured a PR with her second-place time of 8.73. Sky Hagan finished third in the discipline (8.79, PQ).
Blakelee Winn won the 60 meters (7.56, PQ) while Christine Williams won the 200 meters (24.75, PQ).
