FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Pittsburg State University junior Mason Strader became the first man in program history to record a sub 4 minute mile Friday (Feb. 18) at the University of Arkansas Qualifier.
Strader beat a field of 26 runners, crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 58.47 seconds at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Holton, Kan., native bested his previous school record time of 4:02.61 that he clocked last Saturday (Feb. 12) at the Seventh Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic.
Strader's time is the second fastest in NCAA Division II this season. He trails only Aaron Ahl of Simon Fraser University who clocked a time of 3:57.95 at the 2022 Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30.
Additionally, junior thrower Camryn Williams placed fifth in the women's shot put (46-0.75) and fourth in the women's weight throw (51-11) at the Steve Miller Invitational at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan, Kan. Her shot put mark was a personal best. Freshman Octavia Duncan also placed fifth in the women's weight throw (51-5).
Junior thrower Konner Swenson won both the men's shot put (56-10.75) and the men's weight throw (60-11.5) at Manhattan. Sophomores Keifer Tucker (52-7.5) and Sam Thimmesch (51-7) finished second and third, respectively, in the weigh throw, while freshman Cole Sample placed fourth in the shot put (51-4.5).
