TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Garrett McGowan belted a pair of two-run home runs, including a shot in the top of the ninth inning as the Pittsburg State University baseball team held on for an 11-10 victory over Northeastern State University Saturday (Mar. 19) at Rousy Field.
The Gorillas (15-8, 10-2 MIAA) entered the ninth frame tied 8-8 against the RiverHawks (16-9, 6-6 MIAA). Mason Hartman singled, advanced to third on Kaden Fowler's single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cruz Aranda to plate the go-ahead run. McGowan followed with a two-run HR to left field.
Fowler finished the game 4-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI, while McGowan went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBI. Conner Van Cleave homered and collected four hits in the contest as well.
Jordan Mendenhall (2-0) registered the final four outs of the game to earn the victory.
The Gorillas and the RiverHawks will close out the series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (Mar. 20).
