PITTSBURG -- The Washburn University baseball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and rode that early momentum to a 10-8 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Apr. 30) at Falley Field.
The Gorillas (28-18, 21-11 MIAA) chipped away at the lead and eventually got within a run, at 9-8, in the top of the seventh, but WU's Dalton Huggins (5-1) limited Pitt State to two hits and two runs over the final 5.0 innings to preserve the win for the Ichabods (29-17, 19-13 MIAA).
Cruz Aranda led Pitt State's offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. He belted a two-run home run in the contest. Garrett McGowan also doubled and dove in a pair of runs in the contest.
The Gorillas and Ichabods will wrap up the series and the regular season slate with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (May 1).
