Gorillas Bounce Back With 7-5 Victory Saturday

PITTSBURG -- Kaden Fowler smacked a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help lift the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 7-5 victory over Rogers State University Saturday (Apr. 9) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Hillcats (19-17, 12-10 MIAA) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the contest, before the Gorillas placed five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. RSU knotted the score at 5-5 in the top of the sixth, but Fowler countered with his 12th blast of the season to put Pitt State back in front. Cade Clemons added a solo shot in the eighth for an insurance run.

Peyton Ingalls (5-1) pitched 7.0 innings to earn his fifth victory of the season. He scattered seven hits and two walks while registering three strikeouts. Jordan Mendenhall worked the eighth inning and Zach Nagel picked up his first save of the season by recording the final three outs for the Gorillas.

Fowler and Mason Hartman paced the Gorillas offense with three hits apiece. Fowler went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Hartman went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The Gorillas and the Hillcats will close out the MIAA series with a Noon (CST) game Sunday (Apr. 10). Pitt State will conduct Senior Day ceremonies prior to first pitch with those activities beginning at 11:40 a.m.
