Gorillas Earn No. 3 Seed, Home Game in NCAA-II Playoffs


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State football team earned the No. 3 seed in Super Region Three when the 28-team NCAA Division II playoff field was announced Sunday (Nov. 12). The MIAA Co-Champion Gorillas, who wrapped up a 10-1 regular season with a 20-10 victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday (Nov. 11), earned the No. 3 seed in the seven-team Super Region. Pitt State will host the University of Indianapolis (9-1) from the Great Lakes Valley Conference this Saturday (Nov. 18) at Carnie Smith Stadium. Kickoff for the first round action is set for 1 p.m. (CST). Tickets for the post-season game will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 13) at the PSU Ticket Office. Tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission and $5 for PSU Students (with I.D.). All tickets on game day will be $12. PSU season ticket holders have until Tuesday (Nov. 14) to purchase their seats. All unsold season tickets will be released and made available to the general public Wednesday (Nov. 15). Per NCAA rules, there will be no complimentary tickets to the contest. Pitt State has posted a 26-17 record in NCAA post-season play. The Gorillas have made 26 trips to NAIA or NCAA playoff competition overall. The Greyhounds will be making their eighth playoff appearance since 2012. Pitt State has compiled a 26-7 record in home playoff action. The Pitt State – UIndy contest will be a rematch from the 2022 NCAA-II playoffs. The Gorillas hosted the Greyhounds in first-round action a year ago with Pitt State posting a 35-0 victory on Nov. 19 at Carnie Smith Stadium. The winner of the Pitt State – UIndy match-up will advance to face the winner between No. 2 seed Grand Valley State (9-1) and Ferris State (8-2) on Nov. 25. In the other half of the Super Region Three bracket, No. 4 seed Central Missouri (10-1) will host Henderson State (9-2) on Nov. 18 with the winner advancing to face No. 1 seed Harding (11-0) on Nov. 25 at Searcy, Ark.
