RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Pittsburg State women's basketball team came away with a hard fought 88-86 win over Arkansas Tech Thursday (Nov. 16) at Tucker Coliseum thanks to a furious fourth quarter rally.
The Gorillas (3-0) used an 18-7 scoring advantage over the final 4:46 of the final period with Grace Pyle scoring nine of Pitt State's final 18 points to beat Arkansas Tech (1-1). As a team, the Gorillas won the rebounding battle, 38-30, and Pitt State owned a 29-14 advantage in bench scoring against the Golden Suns.
Pyle (McPherson, Kan.) led the team with 27 points, including four 3-pointers in the game, while Macie Mays (El Dorado Springs, Mo.) chipped in with 22 points in 33 minutes of action in a reserve role for the Gorillas. Harper Schreiner (Eudora, Kan.) added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Karenna Gerber (Halstead, Kan.) chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Pitt State will return to action next Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov. 21-22) with cross town road match-ups at Arkadelphia, Ark., against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
