JOPLIN, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's cross country teams both qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday (Nov. 4).
The Pitt State women compiled 128 points to finish third in the team standings, while the Pitt State men placed second with xx points.
Freshman Hannah Gibson paced the Pitt State women in their six-kilometer race in the NCAA-II Central Regional with a 15th place finish in 21 minutes, 18.89 seconds. Redshirt junior Kate Dawson finished 19th (21:26.92) and redshirt junior Marissa Dick placed 23th overall (21:35.22).
Winona State's Lindsay Cunningham won the race in 19:33.28. Winona claimed the regional title with a low of 52 points. Augustana finished second with 95 points.
In the men's action, East Central (Okla.) secured the regional crown with a low score of 40 points, while the Gorillas finished second with 112 points.
Redshirt senior Matthew Oglesby led Pitt State with a seventh-place time of 30:14.00 in the 10-kilometer race. Redshirt senior Mason Strader finished 14th (30:57.47) and redshirt junior Braden Zaner placed 15th (31:01.53).
ECU's Peter Kipkemboi claimed the individual regional title in 29:46.90.
