MIAA Announces Academic Honors for Cross Country

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The MIAA announced its Academic Awards for the 2024 men's and women's cross country season.
 
Eighteen members of the Pittsburg State University men's team were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, while 11 members of the women's team received that recognition.
 
The men's honorees include:  Tyler Atkins, Aden Baughman, John Bear Jr., David Capps, Andrew Early, Eli Gilmore, Nathan Hinrichs, Adam Kahnk, CJ Kneisler, Gabe McGee, Matthew Oglesby, Travis Sickles, Dylan Sprecker, Mason Strader, Jason Swartzlander, Price Terrill, Connor Young and Braden Zaner.
 
The women's honorees were:  Erika Baker, Claire Bruening, Kelsey Bruening, Marissa Dick, Phoebe Fletcher, Hannah Gibson, Paige Mullen, Hailey Secrest, Kaci Singer, Kate Strader and Emily Vandaveer.
 
To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll list, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 or above at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
 
Threee men's athletes – Oglesby, Sprecker and Strader – and two women's athletes – Dick and Strader – also were named MIAA Scholar Athletes.
 
A Scholar-Athlete is an individual that has a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 or better at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The student-athlete must also earn All-MIAA honors in the sport for the 2023 season.
 
Additionally, three men – Bear, Hinrichs and Young – and three women – Gibson, Singer and Vandaveer – garnered the prestigious MIAA Academic Excellence Award recognition.
 
An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of at least 4.00 at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
