Anthony Announces Pair of Coaching Staff Hires

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University head football coach Tom Anthony has announced the recent hiring of two new staff members to join his coaching staff for the 2024 season. Anthony has hired Kevin Bleil to serve as the Gorillas' offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach and Cody Williams to serve as student-athlete performance coach.

Bleil comes to Pitt State from FCS member Stephen F. Austin University where he has served the past five seasons (2018-23) as inside wide receivers coach. Prior to his time at SFA, Bleil served four years as co-offensive coordinator/passing game coordinator at the University of Nebraska-Kearney (2015-18). He also served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce (2013-14) as well as a graduate assistant coach at Iowa State University (2012) and the University of Central Missouri (2010-11).

"We are so excited to have Kevin and his family joining Gorilla Nation!" Anthony said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff. I'm excited to see what he does with our offense!"

Williams comes to Pitt State after serving as an assistant strength coach at the University of Oregon for the past three years (2021-23). He served as a graduate assistant strength & conditioning coach at East Central University during the 2020-21 academic year after serving as a strength & conditioning intern at both Iowa State University and the University of Connecticut in 2019. Williams also served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Waverly-Shell Rock High School in Waverly, Iowa for two stints from 2016-18 and 2020.

"Cody's energy and passion jumped out to me right away," Anthony said. "He comes highly recommended by many people in the profession. He brings a lot of experience from various levels. We're excited to have him joining our staff."
