Records Fall at Crimson & Gold Invitational

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field athletes turned in record breaking performances throughout the day at the Crimson & Gold Invitational Saturday (Dec. 9).
 
Taniya Looney broke her own school record in the women's 60 meters, while Kyla Davis etched her name atop the record book in the women's pole vault.
 
Newcomer Daprist Hogans shattered the Robert W. Plaster facility record in the men's 300 meters and Hunter Jones opened the day by smashing the school record in the men's hepathlon.
 
Looney won the women's 60m in 7.40 seconds posting the third fastest time in NCAA Division II this season. Diandrenique Gaines finished second in the race in 7.43, the fifth-best mark in D2 to date.
 
Erica Schamel won the women's invitational high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 9.75 inches, equaling her personal best and grabbing the top spot in D2 this season.
 
Auna Childress won the women's triple jump with a mark of 41-0, fourth best in D2 this season.
 
Hogans turned in a fast time of 33.49 in the men's 300m to break the facility record, while Jones compiled 5,636 points in the heptathlon to edge out the previous school record.
 
Newcomer Joel Nyatusah posted the second-fastest time in D2 this season in the men's 60 meter hurdles (7.91), while the 4x400m relay of Hogans, A.J. Evans, Caden Williams and Bailey Stone was clocked in the third fastest time in D2 this year (3:11.26).
 
Additional women's NCAA qualifying marks Saturday went to: Madelyn Marques, 60m hurdles (8.60); Siby Yao, long jump (19-0.75); Haleigh Hadley, high jump (5-7.25); Shelbi Day, pole vault (12-6.75); and the 4x400m relay (Mikah Edwards, Olivia Lowrey, Kinleigh Hall, Yasmine Johnson), 3:46.60.
 
Additional men's NCAA qualifying marks: Braylon Thompson, 60m (6.80); Cole Sample, shot put (55-7.25); and Tre Betts, long jump (23-10).
