PITTSBURG — Grace Pyle broke the school's 44-year-old single game scoring record pouring in 41 points to lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to a 95-76 victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday (Dec. 9).
Pyle made 16 of 23 shots from the field in the game, including eight of 13 shooting from 3-point range. Her eighth triple with 7:58 to play in the game gave her 40 points for the game to pass Sunny (York) Pierce's school record 39 points from Feb. 4, 1978.
Karenna Gerber added 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots while making nine of 10 shots from the field.
The Gorillas (8-1, 3-1 MIAA) blew open a two-point game by outscoring UCO (2-8, 1-3 MIAA), 25-14 in the third quarter. Pitt State shot 62.1 percent from the field for the game, making 36 of 58 shots overall.
Sydney Holmes and Macie Mays added seven points apiece for the Gorillas, while Harper Schreiner chipped in with four points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
The Gorillas will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., next Saturday (Dec. 16) to battle MIAA co-leader University of Central Missouri (8-0, 3-0 MIAA) at 1 p.m. (CST) at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
