FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field athletes capitalized on one final opportunity before the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships Friday (Feb. 17) by competing against elite competition at the University of Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track.
A handful of athletes recorded personal best performances, including Cole Sample in the men's weight throw (60-10.75), Braden Zaner (4:05.89) and Diego Contreras (4:05.99) in the men's mile run, Antoine Evans Jr. in the men's 200 meters (21.43), Tevin Wright-Rose in the men's 60 meters (6.77) and Kinleigh Hall in the women's 400 meters (56.12).
Zaner and Contreras posted the second and third fastest times in the men's mile run, while Hall registered the third-fastest time in the women's 400m. Evans and Sample both hit the all-time Pitt State top 10 list at fifth in their respective events, while Wright-Rose's time landed at sixth all-time in the 60m.
In other noteable performances, Taniya Looney matched her PR in the women's 60 meters (7.51), remaining the third-fastest time in school history. Kyla Davis cleared 13-1.5 in the women's pole vault, just off her season best of 13-2.5. Cordell Tinch, the two-time NCAA Division II National Men's Athlete of the Week, ran 7.88 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles. He also won the elite long jump competition with a jump of 25-8.75. Tinch, who already holds the top mark in Division II this season (26-0.75), now has the top two marks recorded this year. No other D2 athlete has jumped further than 25-6 to date this season.
Konner Swenson posted marks of 56-7.5 in the men's shot put and 60-6.5 in the men's weight throw. Camryn Williams threw the shot put 41-8 in the women's competition, while Octavia Duncan posted a best mark of 53-7.75 in the women's weight throw. Makayla Watson recorded a best mark of 18-4.25 in the women's long jump. Jentrie Alderson ran 4:59.77 in the women's mile run, just off her personal best time of 4:59.19. Jamiya Morgan also clocked a fast time of 25.05 in the women's 200 meters.
