PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team will be back in action at the PSU Softball Complex this Friday and Saturday (Apr.14-15) as they will host the Hornets of Emporia State University and the Ichabods of Washburn University.
Friday's double header with the Hornets will start at 3 and approximately 5 p.m. while the Saturday double header with the Ichabods will be at 2 and 4 p.m.
Scouting the Opposition
· The Hornets will enter this weekend's action with a 27-15 overall record and an 7-7 MIAA mark. The Hornets are coming off a mid-week non-conference battle with the Hawks of Rockhurst where they swept the Hawks winning 4-2 and 6-1.
· The Hornet offensive attack is currently led by Sophomore Sophia Rockhold, and Junior Emma Furnish. Rockhold leads the team in batting average, hitting .305 on the season in 28 starts while Furnish has 125 hits on the season with 22 rbis and a team leading four triples. In the circle, the Hornets rely on the arm of Sophomore, Gracie Rabe. Rabe has a 11-5 record with a 2.17 era with 52 strikeouts, and a whip of 1.23
· The Ichabods will enter the weekend with a 31-9 record and a 10-6 MIAA mark. Washburn is coming off a weekend where they went 2-2 at home vs. Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney.
· The Ichabod offensive attack is led by Junior Marrit Mead, and Senior Hadley Kerschen. Mead leads the team in batting average, hitting .449 with 23 rbis, 11 doubles and an ops of 1.090. Kerschen is hitting .400 with 20 rbis two home runs and, six double on the season. In the circle, the Ichabods rely on the arm of Junior Jaycee Ginter. Ginter is coming into the weekend with a 21-5 record, 1.43 era, MIAA leading 211 strikeouts and a whip of .93 in 166 innings pitched.
Scouting the Gorillas.
· The Gorillas are coming into the weekend with a 22-14 record and a 7-7 MIAA mark. The Gorillas come off a weekend where they dropped two against the Lions of Missouri Southern last Saturday (Apr. 8) in Joplin, Mo.
· The Gorilla offense is led by Senior Taylor Lambert, Redshirt Junior Kylee Bohle, and Junior Paxtyn Hayes. Lambert leads the team in batting average, hitting .383 on the season with seven doubles and, 15 stolen bases. Bohle is hitting .378 on the season with eight doubles, and 16 rbis. Hayes leads the team in the slugging categories. The Junior leads the team with 11 home runs, 48 rbis, 11 doubles, an ops of 1.110 and a slugging percentage of .735. In the circle, the Gorillas rely on the arm of Junior Hannah Harrison. Harrison currently has an 11-6 record with an 2.36 era and 112 strikeouts.
