WALNUT, Calif. -- Pittsburg State University sophomore hurdler Cordell Tinch led an impressive cast of men's and women's outdoor track & field performers in California Saturday (Apr. 15).
Tinch shattered the all-time NCAA Division II record in the men's 110 meter hurdles at the Mt. Sac Relays, clocking a blazing fast time of 13.22 seconds in the discipline to set a new meet record. Teammates T.J. Caldwell (13.63) and Daylin Williams (13.64) also secured personal best NCAA qualifying times in the discipline. The trio clocked their times after racing at the Cal State LA Twilight Meet earlier in the day. Tinch posted a time of 13.32 in that meet, while Williams (13.84) and Caldwell (13.93) also posted fast times.
Also at Mt. Sac, L.J. Kiner posted a mark of 53 feet, 0.25 inches in the men's triple jump, while Tinch added a clearance of 7-0.50 in the men's high jump. Braylen Brewer added a season-best time of 46.99 in the men's 400 meters.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa, Calif., Kyla Davis posted a personal-best clearance of 13-9.25 in the women's pole vault, the third-best mark in school history. Taniya Looney was clocked in 11.61 in the women's 100 meters, while Nakiya Marshall turned in a time of 14.24 in the women's 100 meter hurdles. Kinleigh Hall (55.46) and Matti Price (57.23) also competed in the women's 400 meters.
In the men's action, Matthew Oglesby broke the school record in the 10,000 meters with an NCAA qualifying time of 29:37.17. Dre'shaun Sanders also posted the third fastest time in school history in the 200 meters (20.95). Tevin Wright-Rose (21.29), Makai Blades (21.43) and Xavier Carmichael (21.99) also raced in the 200m.
Sam Tudor clocked the third fastest time in school history in the men's 400 meters (47.13), while Nizar Alarahshun was clocked in 48.46 and Bailey Stone was clocked in 48.79. Caleb Calvin won the men's javelin with a throw of 222-7, while Jaylynn Ellerbe-Cundiff posted a mark of 24-3 in the men's long jump.
