PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes turned in strong showings in their final meet before the 2023 MIAA Outdoor Championships Saturday (Apr. 22).
The Pitt State women scored nine individual event wins, while the Pitt State men registered six victories at the PSU Tune-Up Meet at Carnie Smith Stadium/Prentice Gudgen Track.
Auna Childress highlighted the women's top performers by shattering the stadium record as well as the school record in the triple jump. Her mark of 44 feet 2.5 inches shoots her to the No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II this season.
Other women's event winners included: Allary Liberatore in the high jump (5-7.25), Addison Hinterweger in the discus (144-1), Taniya Looney in the 100m (11.50), Erin Hammeke in the steeplechase (11:30.50), Kinleigh Hall in the 400m (56.16), Cami Roy in the 800m (2:22.70), Victoria Wright in the 400m hurdles (1:03.89) and the 4x400m relay of Matti Price, Hall, Mattie Flanagan and Jamiya Morgan (3:53.92).
Other notable women's performances included Morgan placing second in the 100m (11.89) and the 200m (24.28); Flanagan finishing second in the high jump (5-5.25); Rylee Garrett placing second in the javelin (136-7); Price finishing second in the 400m (57.31); Camryn Williams placing third in the shot put (42-7.75); Kyla Davis finishing third in the pole vault (12-10.75); Amber Walbeck placing third in the javelin (136-2); Makayla Pavelka finishing third in the long jump (17-1.5); and Kaci Singer placing third in the 5,000m (18:31.86).
Liberatore is now tied for fifth place nationally with her personal-best clearance in the high jump.
Men's event winners included Daylin Williams in the 110m hurdles (13.90); Xavier Carmichael in the 100m (10.16); Mitchell Sailer in the 1,500m (4:04.12); Cole Sample in the shot put (55-3.75); Tevin Wright-Rose in the 200m (21.18) and the 4x400m relay of Nizar Alarahshun, Sam Tudor, Graha Hudelson and Matthew Wilson (3:18.13).
Other notable men's performances included Wright-Rose placing second in the 100m (10.18); Doug Brown finishing second in the high jump (6-5.25); Caleb Calvin placing second in the javelin (213-5); Konner Swenson finishing second in the shot put (54-6.25) & third in the hammer (195-0); Bryce Kaufmann placing third in the steeplechase (10:06.09); Will Ellis finishing third in the triple jump (46-9.5); Sam Thimmesch placing third in the shot put (51-8); E'Lan Moore finishing third in the discus (167-9); and Braylen Brewer placing third in the 200m (21.38).
Carmichael and Wright-Rose posted the second and third fastest times in school history in the 100m. They now rank fifth and sixth in D2 this season.
